Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopic will most likely include Beatles songs, though
Tale
On Thursday 9th November 1961, a man named Brian walked down a cellar staircase in Liverpool and changed the world forever. In a similar vein to 2023’s Priscilla, Midas Man doesn’t use Beatles music because they couldn’t get the rights, but other songs were used that they were able to get the rights to or that were already in the public domain.
His story needed to be told
A very watchable and engaging portrait of such an important figure of the 20th century. It’s worth remembering that the Beatles we love so much may not have happened without this man’s love for them and his passion and determination to make them succeed.
It would have gotten nine stars if the Beatles music had been available
The film perfectly shows the stark contrast between the overt joy, positivity and honesty of Beatlemania and Brian’s personal life. A fantastic performance by the lead character alongside an excellent supporting cast with a special mention for Blake Richardson (Paul McCartney) We finally have an actor who accurately portrays McCartney and not the usual weak and docile character presented in previous Beatles films (with the exception of Backbeat).
The inclusion of “All you Need Is Love” in the closing scenes and Twist and Shout at the Royal Variety would have been much appreciated
Highly recommended.
