Neither agitation nor force can hold it back
Tale
As the world teeters on the brink of destruction, Dietrich Bonhoeffer becomes involved in a deadly plot to assassinate Hitler, risking his faith and destiny to save millions of Jews from genocide. Actor Niemoeller August Diehl previously played an SS Gestapo officer in Άδωξοι Πάσταρδη (2009) and opposes the conscription of a German citizen into the German army against the will of the Nazis.
Arguing is useless
Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply not be believed – indeed, a fool can counter them by criticizing them, and if they cannot be refuted, they can be ignored as minor exceptions. "A literary parable" This is a solid 7; the historicity is quite well woven, and the fictional story of his death is deeply Christian and convincing.
Perhaps Bonhoeffer does not come across as the master theologian he is, but rather as a Protestant sending in evidence
But according to the biography, the basic mistakes (it was on the Eastern Front years before Barbarossa) and the final scene of his death, which is a bridge from Flossenburg to an anonymous isolated farm with a random group of strangers, are a far cry. Maybe Germany limits such things, but for me it was a missed opportunity not to use Flossenburg for those critical scenes, using the real guillotine that killed Scholl in the movie Sophie Scholl–The Last Days.
Sticking around and watching the cavalry of quotations at the end is more than worth the time
However, this is a "must-see" if you are willing to accept large departures from history and do not expect a deep theological journey. Bonhoeffer reminds us that each generation faces its own evil; Each person must either act or allow evil to take its course; that choice is guided by Christ.
